What You Drankin Drankin (Layer Cake Shiraz 2009)

I’m not that familiar with Shiraz as when I drink red I tend to drink a lot more Pinot Noir, Cabarnet and Italian reds like Nero d’Avolo, Montepulciano d’Abruzzo and moderately priced Barolo. I’m also a huge fan of Amarone and Chateauneuf Du Pape but rarely put the cake up to indulge in those beast like wines.

I do have to say that I really enjoyed this very well priced wine ($16.99) from Layer Cake out of South Australia. Layer Cake is an ideal name for this bottling which is filled with all sorts of different rich and spicy flavoring.  You can easily pick up notes of dark cherry and berry, but each glass was also filled with aromas of mocha, tobacco, chocolate and dark wood. This is also the type of wine that can be referred to as an “ink bomb” as it’s almost midnight black in the glass.  I’m the type of person that doesn’t buy the same bottle twice unless I really fall in love with a particular wine but I could easily see myself picking up a case of this one and holding a few bottles back for a few years. I drank this without food but could see it making an ideal companion to lamb chops, filet mignon, or even BBQ ribs hot off of the fire.  Highly recommended.

Beat Of The Day (Billy Joel)

One of my favorite songs of all time and my favorite Billy Joel joint. It’s really two songs in one and the story of Brenda and Eddie is so typically depressing but so well told. There’s not a lot of my “parent’s” music that I like, but they used to rock the best of Billy hard body in my dad’s old Cadillac on long trips. I grew to love his and Elton John’ music pretty early and have never looked back. I won’t front, my pops also put me on to Led Zep, The Eagles, and the Stones as well.

Beat Of The Day (Jim Jones)

One of my favorite Jimmy joints. It never made an album but it’s bumping for rizzy…..

Beat Of The Day (Hole)

Kurt Cobain written or not one of my breakup songs of all time. It really conveys the anger you can feel after a bad breakup before you get over it and can let bygones be bygones. This whole (no pun intended) was pretty banging to be honest, and during the golden era of hip hop is one of the few joints I rocked hard for a minute. The lyrics are so painfully descriptive that it’s hard to imagine them not being penned by Cobain during his darkest hours. I guess we’ll never know.
